RHINELANDER - Not many people get to watch an industry grow throughout the years.

But the Rhinelander Airport director has seen the airline industry undergo many changes.

Joe Brauer just got the Lifetime Service Award from the Wisconsin Airport Management Association.

He's worked in aviation for nearly 45 years.

He still remembers the moment he decided to join the business.

"I received a post card one day after I graduated from high school. It said if you want to see the world, go to airline school," said Rhinelander Airport director Joe Brauer. "I signed up for it and two days later, someone was there and he signed me up for it."

Brauer believes his career has been rewarding because he got to see many changes in the business.

"We didn't have computers back in those days. The airline industry was basically regulated at that point. All the routes and airlines were regulated. I've seen some really interesting things in deregulation in 1979."

Brauer knows more challenges to aviation will come.

But he's excited to see what happens.
