Story By Hayley Tenpas

TOWN OF SCOTT - A lightning strike caused a house fire in Lincoln County early Tuesday morning.

The call came in at 12:18 a.m.

A house at N1068 Corning Road in the Town of Scott was struck by lightning.

The Merrill Fire Department says the son of the home's owners heard and felt the lightning strike the house.

The owners were not home at the time. Their son was able to make it out safely.

When fire crews arrived they found a fire in the attic.

A ventilation hole was cut in the roof and interior crews removed drywall and paneling throughout the second floor ceilings.

They were able to put the fire out and salvage operations were started.

The damage is estimated to cost 40 thousand dollars from building and contents.
